About

Welcome to Documenting the Resistance!  My name is Patrick C. Irelan, and I am an anthropologist and public policy analyst/enthusiast working in Washington, DC.  Starting in late January 2017 I began a quest to visit, experience, and photograph the eruption of grassroots protest in and around the city.  Having lived and worked in the DC metropolitan area for most of my life I have been both surprised and heartened by the emergence of the #resistance, and the many forms it has taken (including organized protests, street art, ad hoc demonstrations, and so much more).  This site is intended as an archive of my experiences and a motivator for others to find ways big and small to advocate for what they believe is right.

I am also eager to hear your thoughts and recollections about your own experiences related to the #resistance (whether positive, negative, or neutral).  This site will soon incorporate interviews, photographs, art, and other documentary materials provided by the many people working hard to ensure their voices cannot be ignored or easily dismissed.  If you would like to submit material, meet up for an interview, or have any questions, you may email me at patrick@patrickirelan.com.

Note that we are still working on getting the full backlog of photos posted to the site – there have been countless forms of protest and with them (seemingly) countless photographs!  Please pardon our dust as we work to get all our existing materials online.
